Want to build an art collection but not sure where to start? Here are a couple of opportunities to obtain reasonably priced pieces from artists’ own collections. And, in both cases, your purchase will be helping a worthy Broome County Arts Council member:
- From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this Saturday (Oct. 2), Anne Boyer Cotten, a professor of art at Broome Community College and artistic director of the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton, will be hosting an art sale at her home, 13 Jutland Road, Binghamton (off Vestal Avenue on the South Side).
Looking ahead to her retirement move to Arizona, Cotten is downsizing her art holdings. For sale at very attractive prices will be art works of many kinds — graphics, textiles and more.
Proceeds from the cash sale will go to the Madrigal Choir.
- Marche des’Arts, a second-time-around sale of original art and art objects, will be held with extended gallery hours Oct. 28-30 at Cooperative Gallery 213, 213 State St., Binghamton. Paintings, sculpture, fabric art, costume jewelry and more from the studios and homes of the gallery’s member artists will be on sale.
No item will be priced over $100. All proceeds will benefit the gallery. Tickets at $10 to the gala preview 7 p.m. Oct. 28 are on sale from gallery members during gallery hours (3-6 p.m. Fridays, 3-9 p.m. First Friday, noon-4 p.m. Saturdays). Only 100 tickets will be sold to the preview, which will feature food, entertainment and door prizes.
