Artist in Residence Program

Broome County Arts Council’s Artist Residency program transforms the landscape of possibilities for emerging artists by providing funding, space, tools, and time to create. During a residency, artists have 24/7 access to their own private studio at BCAC, full use of the Digital Art Lab, and will receive a $250 stipend to use for supplies and materials, to offset the cost of childcare, or to use however the artist would find most beneficial during their residency month. Each artist will have their own First Friday exhibition in their studio and enjoy the opportunity to sell and show their work through Artisan Gallery.

Luanne Redeye

Artist in Residence (February 2023) & AiR Program Coordinator

Born in Jamestown, NY, Luanne Redeye grew up on the Allegany Indian Reservation in Western New York. It is from here where she draws inspiration incorporating community, family, and culture into her artwork, which gives her pieces a strong personal and emotional component. Whether her art touches on the native experience, identity, or resiliency, Luanne’s work is always created through a native lens sharing her experiences, knowledge, and perspective of navigating a modern world as a native woman.

An enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and Hawk Clan, Luanne received her MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of New Mexico.

HOME IN EACH OTHER: LUANNE REDEYE

On View: 02/03/23  – 02/25/23
Opening First Friday, February 3rd, from 6-9 PM

Home in Each Other is a new series of work by Luanne Redeye. This exhibition will showcase the beginning of an exploration into the relationships we hold with each other, telling the stories of family by weaving together personal narratives, home, identity, and culture. Family and home appear different for everyone and this exhibition will explore both themes to gain a deeper understanding of the relationships to community while speaking to the complexities of the people’s lives. The exhibition will also feature recent work by Luanne Redeye that relates to the idea of building community around you, portraying others the artist has connected with.

How to Apply

The resident artists for the 2023/2024 cycle have been selected. Applications for the 2025 cycle will open in Fall 2024. Independent visual artists who work in the following mediums are encouraged to apply: painting, drawing, sculpture, printing, digital photography (there is no dark room available at this time), film, fiber arts, and mixed media. In addition to the studio space, resident artists will also receive a $250 stipend, and have access to the Digital Art Lab, outfitted with the Adobe Creative Suite, and a collection of photography and film equipment.

In addition to their First Friday show, Resident Artists are encouraged to host an Open Studio Saturday–one Saturday out of the 4-5 week stay where the artist opens the doors to their studio and encourages the public to come, watch the artist at work, and ask questions. Each residency begins on the first of the selected month and extends till First Friday of the next month, culminating in an exhibition on that First Friday. Resident artists are selected by an outside advisory committee of artists and arts professionals. BCAC supports a diverse array of artists across socio-economic backgrounds, culture, age, education, and geography.
