Local author Carson McKenna has released a new essay collection entitled, “Broke Babe in a Basement.” There will be a launch party at Lost Dog Lounge on Friday, August 12th, from 5:30-8:30 PM. Copies of the book will be available to be purchased and signed for $20. Appetizers will be served, and a short play featuring scenes from the book performed at 7:30’PM. The evening promises to be a fun community event, replete with theatrical kicks and literary thrills!
The essay collection details Carson’s life as a starving artist in Brooklyn, circa 2017-18, when she was writing her first novel, Misercordias. She also flashbacks to 2015, when she was trying (and failing) to make it in real estate on the ruthless isle of Manhattan.
“ Broke Babe” is an homage to the twenties, that graceless era of painful lessons and face-palming stories. Ultimately, they are pavers on the road to, “where are we going” and “what are we leaving behind?”
