The Broome County Arts Council will be hosting a poetry workshop on synesthesia, synecdoche, metonymy, and personification, facilitated by Dr. Joshua Lewis, on March 10th from 5-7 p.m. at 95 Court Street, Binghamton, NY. The goal of this workshop is to explore how synesthesia, synecdoche, metonymy, and personification can be used in poetry.

Synesthesia is a condition in which one sense (for example, hearing) is simultaneously perceived as if by one or more additional senses such as sight.

Synecdoche is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase that refers to a part of something is substituted to stand in for the whole, or vice versa.

Metonymy is a figure of speech in which one thing is replaced with a word closely associated with it.

Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman
