Despite reasonably mild weather, outdoor crowds were largely missing from Binghamton First Night 2010. Though some favorite entertainment groups were also missing, there were still more than enough activities and artists to fill an evening. In many parts of the US, where it once was celebrated, First Night has disappeared. Some of our distant contacts are surprised to hear we still have one in Binghamton. It’s a wholesome, fun experience for all ages, and the police and security folks deserve credit for making it a safe and orderly event. It’s a great time to sample lots of different entertainment. We hope this local tradition, like so many others such as the Spiedie Fest will not just survive but thrive.
Last Sunday, Bronzissimo!, the area's select handbell choir, filled Memorial Park Baptist Church in Vestal with familiar carols and Christmas favorites from the French, English, Ukrainian and American traditions.
