Katie Barlow has been choreographing and directing large scale site specific work since 2011. Her work is inspired by having a love of community collaboration, mass, movement from site happiness, spontaneity, and life experiences. She finds a community, site, or structure that strikes her as being misunderstood, ignored, or that has played a significant role in her lifetime. Each of these reasons causes her to explore that site or community. She then finds the history behind it, the memories made, or the potential that she can bring to energize an area. In order to keep her momentum going with large scale work, she developed a dance-fitness class, Flash Mob 101, which is now in their fifth year and 12th performance running, making an impact throughout Broome County at various restaurants and outdoor locations. In the mean time as the current "Head of Choreography for Upstate, NY" for Book A Flash Mob, Katie choreographed and directed a Marriage Proposal Flash Mob at Colonie Center mall and another Marriage Proposal Flash Mob at Destiny USA in Syracuse NY that was filmed for a Japanese TV reality show. In the spring of 2018, Barlow choreographed Cabaret, at the Jewish Community Center in Binghamton, NY and Twisted Broadway for the Binghamton Pride Coalition. Most recently she was a guest artist during NYC Dance Week 2018. Currently Katie is preparing for a flash mob workshop with the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy, NY from March- April 2019.

Katie graduated from Alfred University in May, 2011 with a BA in theatre and a minor in dance. She has created many site specific pieces as well as choreographed and performed for AU Dance Theatre. Under the direction of D. Chase Angier and Robert Bingham, she concentrated in composition, contemporary modern, and site specific dance. As an involved Dance Place intern in Washington, DC, she assisted with Coyaba Dance Theatre, was the studio rental coordinator/office manager, as well as a performer of African dance.
