Lovers of songs from musical theater can enjoy a night out with one of Broome County’s best-known tenors, Tony Villecco, this weekend at the Cider Mill Stage, 2 Nanticoke Ave., Endicott.
The cabaret program “Some Enchanted Evening: An Evening of Broadway Songs” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 5 and 6).
Villecco said the performance has been in the works for quite a long time, but due to the pandemic and other considerations, he had been unable to finalize the program until now.
Thanks to an invitation from Kate Murray of BLAST (Bold Local Artists of the Southern Tier), the show must, and will, go on.
The tenor, who (full disclosure) has been a contributor to BAMirror, describes his program as an all-Broadway cabaret featuring jazz standards and well-known show tunes. There will be a dozen songs in all with a surprise or two that he is certain will please the audience. Expect to hear numbers from Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and 42nd St. among others shows.
Villecco hopes the show will attract people of all ages, those who have listened to Broadway music all their lives and those for whom this show may be an introduction, a primer perhaps on the kind of songs that have made Broadway the national treasure that it is.
The program is expected to run about 90 minutes with one brief intermission. Villecco will be accompanied by pianist John Isenberg and flutist Melanie Valencia.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Broome County Humane Society.
