Binghamton University Voice and Opera will present Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi at 7:30 p.m. today (Feb. 23) and 3 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 25) in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall on campus. Suor Angelica is a story of a high-born woman who has been sent to a convent for having a child out of wedlock and the tragedy that ensues when her strict aunt comes to see her for the first time in seven years.
Gianni Schicchi, Puccini’s only comedy, is about a scheming family who convinces the title character to help them change the will of their rich uncle for their benefit. In the end, Schicchi tricks the family out of most of their ill-gotten gains to help his daughter marry her true love.
