I went to the Binghamton University Concerto and Aria Competition a few weekends ago in the Casadesus Recital Hall of the Fine Arts building on campus. I was blown away by the extraordinary amount of talent displayed at this competition. There was a wide variety of styles, pieces and instruments.
The winners will be performing with the Binghamton University Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Osterhout Concert Theater of BU’s Anderson Center. I am especially looking forward to hearing one of the winners at that performance, William Marsiglia, who will playing the Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra by Launy Grondahl, a really great piece with contrasting movements.
If you can’t make it that day, and still want to enjoy some of the students’ talent, you can attend one of the weekly Mid-Day Concerts, held at 1:20 p.m. Thursdays, starting this week (Oct. 6) in the Casadesus Recital Hall.
