Harry Chapin had a profound effect on folk music with his lengthy songs that told beautiful, touching stories. Everyone remembers “Cat’s in the Cradle”, a powerful narrative song about a strained father/son relationship, but you may not have heard the mournful celebration of lost love “Taxi” or the tragic tale of a loveable but drifting radio DJ, “W*O*L*D*”, or lesser-known masterpieces like “What Made America Famous”, “The Rock”, “Mr. Tanner”, or the darkly comic “30,000 Pounds of Bananas”. Frank Powell (guitar/vocals) of Third Street Strays has been playing live music for over 40 years and has written over 500 songs, many influenced by Harry Chapin and other folk, rock, blues, and even country artists. Todd Hursh (upright bass) of “The Visions” joins in for a moving tribute to one of folk music’s shooting stars.
