Theatre is back, at your hometown theater, the Cider Mill Stage located at 2 Nanticoke Ave, Endicott, NY.
Terrence McNally’s irreverent backstage farce “about the comedy of Broadway” is alternately raucous, ridiculous, and tender. Yes, it’s only a play but, at the lavish star-studded opening night party of playwright, Peter Austin’s new Broadway show, tensions are high in the bedroom of the posh townhome owned by the show’s novice producer.
With his career on the line, as he awaits the reviews, Peter, the panicked playwright (Joe Hoffman), huddles upstairs with his egotistical best friend, sitcom star James Wicker (Jan DeAngelo), the dim-witted producer, Julia Budder (Jessica Pullis), the freaky flop-seeking director, Sir Frank Finger (Ian Cook), the doped-up leading lady, Virginia Noyes, (Shannon Roma DeAngelo), a lethal and disliked critic, Ira Drew, (Chris Nickerson), and an over-eager coat-check attendant, Gus P. Head (Reidan Pitarresi).
Everyone’s at their backstabbing best during this Terrence McNally comedy It’s Only a Play. Filled with sharp wit, ridiculous sight gags and a dash of Broadway magic, McNally’s maliciously funny ‘love-letter’ to theatre will have you in stitches. Equal parts uproarious and heartfelt — It’s Only a Play will remind you of why there’s no business, like the business we’re in.
Featuring a strong ensemble cast It’s Only a Play, produced by BLAST: Bold Local Artists of the Southern Tier and directed by Kate Murray, is the first selection of BLAST”s 2021 season at the Cider Mill Stage.
It’s Only a Play opens on Friday, September 17th and runs Saturday, September 18th and Sunday, September 19th and again September 24th -26th. All performances start at 7:30pm and tickets cost $25.
