St. Patrick's windows tell stories in glass

Stained glass windows designed by the German artisan Franz Mayer before World War I tell stories of key events in the life of Jesus and of the patron saint of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Binghamton. Proceeds of a lectured visual tour will benefit the restoration of St. Patrick's 1928 Austin pipe organ.

Is First Night fading? There’s still good entertainment here

Despite reasonably mild weather, outdoor crowds were largely missing from Binghamton First Night 2010. Though some favorite entertainment groups were also missing, there were still more than enough activities and artists to fill an evening. In many parts of the US, where it once was celebrated, First Night has disappeared. Some of our distant contacts are surprised to hear we still have one in Binghamton. It’s a wholesome, fun experience for all ages, and the police and security folks deserve credit for making it a safe and orderly event. It’s a great time to sample lots of different entertainment. We hope this local tradition, like so many others such as the Spiedie Fest will not just survive but thrive.
