BLAST PRESENTS: “Over the Pub” by Tom Dudzick at the Cider Mill Stage, Your Hometown Theater, 2 Nanticoke Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 March 17th – March 27th,2022.
When a Celebrity impersonating Class Clown clashes with a cranky Catholic School Nun, all Hell breaks loose! In Tom Dudzick’s hilarious Irish comedy “Over the Pub”. It is 1964 and 12-year-old Thomas Murphy (Jack Wolf) only wants some answers.
Why can’t hot-headed dad, Pat Murphy (Larry Guidici) be like the fathers on television? Why can’t his mom, Ellen Murphy (Kathleen Cook), just prepare the Lenten Friday night meal of fish, chips, and mushy peas herself, instead of buying it at Patrossi’s? And finally, why must he be confirmed as a Catholic when there’s got to be thousands of more “fun” religions to choose from?
After one too many of Tommy’s questions, ruler wielding Sister Mary Agnes (Bridget Kane) decides to visit the Murphy’s apartment above their family pub in Cork City, Ireland. During her visit, Sister encounters Tommy’s parents and three siblings; 17-year-old Annie Murphy (Elizabeth Hotalen), a bundle of nerves that turns into a puddle of tears every chance she gets, 15-year-old Eddie Murphy (Liam Roma), a bit of a brute who loves reading comic books and girlie magazines, and 9-year-old Mikie Murphy (Nolan Whigham), who loves TV Westerns, Superheroes and using a certain cuss word.
This warm-hearted Irish comedy will teach you the importance of questioning family values and religious education while having you rolling in the aisles with laughter. Based on the Playwright’s own upbringing in 1950’s, Buffalo, NY this is the ‘Irish Version’ of Dudzick’s popular “Over the Tavern” stage play. Adapted to appeal to audiences in Ireland “Over the Pub” proves that a funny family story can easily entertain audiences here in this country and around the world.
