Learn how to reduce stress and improve your physical and emotional well-being! This 4-session course teaches skills of mindfulness and meditation and helps build the habit of using it in your daily life. Each session includes instruction, practice, and discussion. This class is based on the Koru Mindfulness program – an evidence-based curriculum to teach mindfulness, meditation, and stress management. Koru Mindfulness was developed over the course of a decade by psychiatrists Holly Rogers, MD and Margaret Maytan, MD to bring the benefits of mindfulness to college students they worked with at Duke University’s student counseling center. “Koru” is the New Zealand Maori word for the spiral shape of the unfurling fern frond. The word literally means “looped” or “spiraled”, but the shape symbolizes harmony or balanced growth, representing layered growth around a stable center.
