“This, That and the Other” The Work of Eileen Schlag and Shirley Ernest at Cooperative Gallery 213
Eileen Seeley Schlag will open an exhibit titled: “This, That and the Other” on Friday May 3rd at the Cooperative Gallery 213 State St. in Binghamton. The opening, shared by watercolorist Shirley Ernst, will run through Saturday, May 25th. The Artists’ Reception, open to the public, will be held at the gallery on First Friday, May 3rd from 3- 9pm. On May 16th, the Third Thursday from 6 to 8 pm, Schlag will demonstrate encaustic painting (a hot wax technique) with collage for anyone interested.
Schlag’s work includes recent oil and acrylic paintings drawn from a lifetime of enjoyment of horse, and the sea. There will also be abstract encaustic paintings with collage elements. Speaking of her work In this series, Schlag observes, “I am drawing from my memories of wild rides through the woods on my mostly tamed horse and peaceful days at the beach enjoying silence and rest like the rowboats resting at their moorings.” She continues, “The encaustics are a total change for me and make space for my imagination to roam free.”
Shirley Ernst, a watercolorist is showing new work as well. She comments, “When watercolor works well, the colors are fresh, the white paper sparkles through, and the brush strokes are spontaneous.”
The Cooperative Gallery, a popular stop on the First Friday Art Walk, located at Artists’ Row / State of the Art, at 213 State Street in Binghamton, is open on First Friday 3- 9 pm and regularly on Fridays 3-6:00 p.m. and Saturdays 12- 4:00 p.m. Appointments may be made with the artists.
