Tri-Cities Opera has been chosen to host a singers’ workshop Tuesday (Nov. 13) sponsored by OPERA America. Selected singers from TCO’s resident artists program and Binghamton University’s Masters in Music program will have the opportunity to sing a “feedback” audition, and the public is invited to listen.
The workshop will feature discussion on career strategies for singers, as well as a 20-minute opportunity to perform and receive advice from industry professionals. The OPERA America panel will include Isabel Wolf, manager of Wolf International Artists Management, and tenor Richard Leech. Leech, who grew up in Broome County, is a former TCO resident artist and has enjoyed an international operatic career spanning three decades.
“We wanted to bring some of the best in the opera world to our community to give our singers the benefit of their knowledge,” said TCO General Director Reed Smith. “This is a truly a unique opportunity.”
The OPERA America “Making Connections on Location” workshop will run from 6 to 10 p.m. at the TCO Opera Center, 315 Clinton St., Binghamton. Other industry experts and professionals participating with Wolf and Leech in the discussion entitled “Career Strategies for Singers” are Barbara Dever, mezzo-soprano; Brian DeMaris of Ithaca College; Laura Lee Everett of OPERA America, and Smith and Judy Berry from TCO.
