Randall House Restoration Project

Discoveries In Sculpture is celebrating the beginning of a major restoration of the historic Randall House, located at 22 Front Steet in Binghamton. The project will restore the building to full usability as an arts center in cooperation with the attached Roberson Museum. Initial roof repair to prevent ongoing leakage damage and required asbestos removal were accomplished by the organization over a year ago, but additional funds were needed to continue the project. The non-profit arts organization has received major local support for this next phase of the restoration from the City of Binghamton as well as two local Foundations. This work will complete all of the much-needed exterior restoration and is being performed by Peranich and Shelp Construction. Discoveries In Sculpture is seeking a major historic preservation grant from New York State to do the needed structural repairs and interior renovation to complete the restoration of this well-known local landmark.

Discoveries In Sculpture, Inc., a 501-c-3 arts-centered non-profit, has partnered with the Roberson Museum to renovate and occupy the presently unused historic Randall House via a long-term lease agreement. The space will be dedicated to the display of the works of local artists, providing a venue for artists to present their work directly to the thousands of annual visitors to the museum.

Discoveries In Sculpture, Inc. was initiated by Jerome Weinberger, since deceased, a local artist from the nearby Franklin Hill area in northeast Pennsylvania. Mr. Weinberger worked in found-object art, creating evocative sculptures from natural and man-made objects from his local environment. Weinberger spent his formative years in art in the New York metropolitan area, using found-object art to support arts education in downstate area schools. His work was displayed in Tiffany’s windows and was featured in an article in the New Yorker magazine. In 2016, ninety pieces of his work were displayed at the Roberson Museum. Discoveries In Sculpture is dedicated to continuing his work in support of the arts and arts education in our area.
