Tri-Cities Opera’s Pocket Opera Project returns tonight (Tuesday, May 14) to showcase a unique collaboration.
Original stories by students from the Central New York region have been transformed into mini-operas by composition students in Binghamton University Department of Music and lyricists from KNOW Theatre. These new works will be performed by TCO Resident Artists at the Tri-Cities Opera Center, 315 Clinton St., Binghamton. The one-hour performance will begin at 7 p.m. and have one intermission. All of the mini operas are performed in English.
The Pocket Opera Project, part of TCO’s mission to “make opera for everyone,” is “meant to be a catalyst for student engagement and music education across multiple institutions and ages,” according to a TCO statement.
The young storytellers are from Cooperstown, Ithaca, Binghamton, Trumansburg, Castle Creek, Corning and Vestal.
Adult admission is $12 at tricitiesopera.com. Tickets are always free for those under the age of 18.
