“ Learn the Ancient Art of Renaissance Mask making and Unmask Your Creative Self!  Join us in the Broome County Arts Council’s Artisan Gallery for an incredible art-making experience. Ages 10 and up! Beginners to professional actors and storytellers are all welcome! Sat., Feb. 22, 2020 11:00AM – 3:00PM and Sat., Feb. 29 , 12:00PM – 3:00PM (March 7th rain/snow date).

The workshop will be led by Barbara L. Gregson, theater artist and mask maker. Gregson studied Renaissance mask making in Italy with Donato Sartori and later with Lauren Raine in the United States. She also studied Theater in London, England, and Mime in Paris, France. Gregson directs original mask, mime, and theater productions with people of all ages and abilities throughout the United States. Timeline:

Pre-register and pay by Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 to secure your place in the workshop. The workshop is $75 for the general public and $70 for BCAC members. This fee covers costs associated with the two-day, hands-on workshop including materials.

Day 1: Saturday, February 22 ,2020, 11:00AM-3:00PM. You will make the plaster cast of your face and then a papier mache’ neutral or character mask from the cast.  

Day 2: Saturday, February 29, 2020, 12:00PM-3:00 PM. You will finish your mask, paint it and while it dries you will learn how to use theater masks in performance, (using Barbara Gregson’s masks). Followed by a final discussion. Everyone will leave with the cast of their face, which they can use for future masks, as well as with their papier-mache mask. 

 (Please note: wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel, hairpins, shower caps, etc. to put your hair back)
