FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK

November 1st, 2024 6PM – 9PM

Established in the early 2000’s by a creative trio of women dedicated to the arts, the First Friday Art Walk filled downtown Binghamton with a litany of art exhibitions and other creative happenings on the First Friday of every month. Almost 20 years later, First Friday continues to platform local artists, gallery owners, and musicians. In 2020 the Broome County Arts Council adopted the First Friday Art Walk and is proud to help preserve this community building tradition with the generous support of Broome County Government and City of Binghamton.

Please check this page for information on participating locations. Some galleries have different open times – check below for more details.

“THERE’S NOTHING TO DO IN BINGHAMTON, NY” is an all-too-familiar complaint of the Southern Tier town. Broome County Arts Council’s First Friday rebrand, including new logos, a bright new color palette, kitchsy slogans, tote bags, art cards, and stickers, revitalizes the historic First Friday Art Walk and shows all the nay-sayers what they’re missing. 2023 First Friday rebrand encompasses colors and imagery from the Downtown Arts District. First Friday logos were generously created by designer Kari Bayait.

Colette Chermak
On view: 12/06/24 – 12/31/24

Colette Chermak (b. 2001, Binghamton, NY) is a multimedia artist who reinterprets the everyday experience. She documents the sublime, overwhelming beauty of a moment, reflecting on the immediacy, ephemerality, and fragility of nature; she reimagines the mundane, manipulating classic techniques to create illusory scenes. Using photography, painting, and found materials, Chermak employs a variety of filters – some inherent to technology, others of her own design – within her work, disrupting traditional perception of the world. In her pursuit of the ‘fleeting moment,’ Chermak contemplates vulnerability of the self, interpersonal relationships, and confronts the wider conflict between environmental destruction and human demise.
