Whether you’re interested in pursuing an arts education or not, outside feedback is essential for artistic development! On December 14th, the Broome County Arts Council will host a portfolio review & critique for emerging artists in Broome County.

Emerging artists are invited to sign up to have their portfolios reviewed in 20-minute timeslots by Michael Grasso, Executive Director of the Roberson Museum and Science Center and Orazio Salati, Artist and Owner of Orazio Salati Studio & Gallery.

Michael Grasso is a native of Endicott, New York and a graduate of Broome Community College and Binghamton University.  After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, Michael moved to Manhattan and worked at a boutique interior design firm in SoHo where he discovered his love of arts management. He obtained his degree in Arts and Cultural Management from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 2012. This executive-style program featured coursework in museology, fundraising, public art, non-profit law, performance art, and dozens of other subjects which have prepared him for a career in any sector of the art world.

Upon completion of his Master’s degree, Michael was offered a position at WSKG Public Media working with arts and cultural institutions throughout Upstate New York and Northern Pennsylvania. He served as the Director of Development and Marketing before taking his current position as the Executive Director of Roberson Museum and Science Center in November of 2017.

Orazio Salati began his professional journey with fiber arts, clay and precious metals, but was ultimately drawn back to painting. His first work arose from a specific event: the massacre of a Native American tribe. The theme of this body of work was a study of the energy and forces present in the “passing” of spirits. Illustrations from these paintings are included in the book A Tribe Returned. Orazio’s work’s have been in thirteen exhibitions from SoHo to Chelsea, been represented by galleries across the country, has shown in Florence, Italy, at the Firenze Biennale and his work has been seen in Europe and Asia. He also had the distinct privilege of observing the restoration of the Sistine Chapel, Vatican City. Orazio was allowed to actually touch Michelangelo’s ceiling, in 1987.

An Art Educator of over forty years. He was chair of the Union-Endicott HS Art Dept, taught painting at Keystone College and adjunct at Broome Community College. Salati taught Advanced Placement Studio Art and Drawing. Was a judicator for the International Baccalaureat Studio In Art and attended and worked with the National Portfolio reviews for most of his teaching career. Orazio Salati owns the Orazio Salati Studio & Gallery in down town Binghamton along with his painting studio. 

His paintings are in numerous collections in the United State and internationally, including UHS and NBT Bank. His method of painting is in mixed media consisting of oil, wax, and tar on panel fused with a blow torch.
