Yeah, yeah! There was snow. There was wind. There were single-digit nights. But not all was lost. The arts and entertainment calendar was again jam-packed.
What attracted you? Was it skaters or Seuss? Did you revist your childhood with the “Sesame Street” gang or relive your youth with Jefferson Starship?
Yet, again, I have the Union-Endicott School District to thank for the high point of my arts week. In this time of drastic budget cutting, I’m again donning my cheerleader outfit for arts education and thanking teachers Shari Rivenburg and James Gleason for last Tuesday’s (March 22) WONDERFUL performance at U-E High.
I always enjoy my son’s concerts, whether he’s singing Baroque or boogie-woogie. However, coming as I do from a primarily classical high school choral experience (a tip of the hat yet again to Alan Crabb, who molded my musical sensibilities at JC High), I particularly enjoyed this concert: Mozart, Handel, Faure and the combined chorus and chorale performing the complete Vivaldi “Magnificat,” accompanied by the high school string orchestra and featuring nine talented student soloists. Bravi tutti!
