This program is based on a repertoire performed 100 years ago by John Philip Sousa and his band during their 1919–20 tour of the U.S. and Canada. In fact, most of the pieces were actually performed when Sousa’s band appeared in nearby communities on June 17, 1919, at both the Tioga Theatre in Owego and the Lyceum Theatre in Ithaca. Sousa was a master of concert programming and you’ll hear that Sousa was about much more than his famous marches. Featured soloists with the Binghamton University Wind Symphony, conducted by Daniel Fabricius, will be Paul Barber, trumpet and Jordan Bowman, soprano. This concert will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in the Osterhout Concert Theater.
