This upcoming weekend, there will be two exciting concerts by Binghamton University students. At 3 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 22), the University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Timothy Perry; the Harpur Chorale, conducted by Peter Browne, and the Women’s Chorus will perform in the Anderson Center’s Osterhout Concert Theater.
At 7:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 23), the orchestra will return to the Osterhout in a concert featuring winners of the annual Concerto and Aria Competition. Benjamin Pochily, viola, will perform Hindemith’s Der Schwanendrehrer (fir1st movement); William Marsiglia, trombone, will perform Gröndahl’s Concerto for Trombone in f minor (second and third movements); Sung-Kyun Ryu, piano, will perform Chopin’s Concerto #2 in f minor, Op. 21 (first movement), and Kathleen Jasinskas, soprano, will perform Donizetti’s “Ah .. .tardai troppo … O luce di quest” anima” fromthe opera Linda di Chamounix.
As an undergraduate, I was a member of both the orchestra and Harpur Chorale, and I can tell you that these groups work very hard. The members are always proud to present works to the public, and, of course, they always appreciate those from the community who come out to seeand hear them. I’m excited for these concerts because I’ll get to see what my peers have been working on all semester.
Saturday’s concert is a free family performance. Tickets for Sunday’s concert are $10 ($6 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $3 for students).
